Beginning in early 2006, in response to many, many requests
for information about how (or whether) it would be
possible to obtain USA citizenship and keep Belgian citizenship,
Rita began a campaign to have the regulations changed.
After ultimately collecting over 1000 endorsements to the idea, the regulations were changed in January 2007. See the Possessing Several Nationalities page on the Belgian Government website. Below are some of the key documents produced in this campaign. Taking advantage of a regulation she had been involved establishing, Rita became a citizen of the United States of America on 3 Septembeer 2013; she retains her Belgian citizenship. |
